Merlot doesn’t have to be a light wine; this Merlot is packed with flavour as a result of our hands on and quite frankly, labour intensive winemaking techniques. Deep red colour matched with an intense aroma of plum, berry, coffee and chocolate gives your senses a hit. 

Earth & Vine

The grapes were grown in our hidden valley, the highest elevation rows of our estate. A cool season meant plenty of canopy so we used Smart-Dyson canopy management to maximise berry sun exposure, leading to deep colour along with classic Merlot flavours.

From Vine to Wine

Crushed into open fermenters, the grapes were left on skins for 9 days with twice-daily hand plunging, then gently basket pressed with close monitoring of pressures and taste for just the right extraction. The Merlot was matured in aged French oak barrels, with a balance towards maintaining bold fruit characters and subtle oak influence.

The Senses

This is far from a common light bodied Merlot, here you'll find a complex fruit and tannin structure with plenty of body. The colour is typical of our hand plunged wines being deep, rich and deep purple.

Behind the Label

We love the majestic old river red gums nestled throughout our Eden Valley estate, and the great hollowed out gum depicted on the label is our favourite. This magnificent timeworn tree has witnessed hundreds of years of history and provided accommodation for both native fauna and long-distant families alike.
